Singapore is gearing up for a significant transformation as it integrates artificial intelligence (AI) into key sectors like advanced manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and connectivity. This move is anticipated to not only enhance these industries but also contribute to the nation’s broader economic growth. These sectors are pivotal as they contribute over 40 percent to Singapore’s gross domestic product, making them central to the AI strategy outlined in the Budget 2026 plan.
Trade and Industry Minister Tan See Leng emphasized that AI’s transformative power offers potential growth opportunities for related industries and the wider economy. Nevertheless, he noted that the extent of these benefits is contingent upon how effectively businesses can redesign workflows and embed AI within their operations. For Singapore, with its modest population size, it remains crucial to continually bolster its pool of talent, capital, and expertise to drive innovation forward.
Meanwhile, Cambodia is also eyeing AI as a catalyst for its ongoing digital transformation. The Cambodian Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hem Vanndy, acknowledged both the opportunities and challenges that AI presents. He underscored the need for businesses and workers to acquire the skills necessary for embracing new technologies, which will be essential for improving productivity.
Both ministers highlighted the importance of maintaining openness, fostering workforce development, and adapting to technological advancements, especially in the face of geopolitical tensions, trade barriers, and shifts in global supply chains. As countries navigate these complexities, the strategic adoption of AI could prove to be a significant lever for economic resilience and growth.
