The latest Spider-Man film, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” has swung into theaters with a groundbreaking opening weekend, raking in an estimated $927 million globally over its first four days. This achievement places it as the second-largest global opening in cinema history, surpassed only by “Avengers: Endgame,” which premiered with a staggering $1.2 billion in 2019. In North America, the movie garnered $355 million over the weekend, just shy of the domestic record of $357.1 million, also held by “Avengers: Endgame.”
Internationally, the film amassed $572 million from 66 different markets. China led the way in overseas earnings, contributing $121 million, while the United Kingdom brought in $49 million, Mexico added $38.3 million, and South Korea contributed $25 million. The film established new opening weekend records in several countries, with India achieving its largest-ever Hollywood opening at $31.8 million. France contributed $26.6 million, Brazil $23.8 million, and Spain $15.6 million to the film’s impressive international performance.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has outperformed previous Marvel blockbusters in terms of opening weekend box office numbers. It comfortably exceeded the openings of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which earned $600 million globally, and “Avengers: Infinity War,” which debuted with $640 million worldwide. The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and picks up the story four years after the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
The plot follows Peter Parker, portrayed by Tom Holland, as he navigates life after the world has forgotten his identity. As he attempts to rebuild, he faces a mysterious new threat and is joined by unexpected allies. The movie’s cast includes stars such as Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo, adding to its appeal and driving its box office success.
