In a bid to bolster the integration of artificial intelligence within its small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Singapore is ramping up initiatives through collaborations, educational programs, cybersecurity strategies, and industry accolades. During the Asia Tech x Singapore conference, Tan Kiat How, the Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information, emphasized the importance for businesses to prioritize practical applications of AI over merely chasing industry trends.
As part of its broader Digital Enterprise Blueprint (DEB), Singapore has unveiled a series of expanded measures aimed at enhancing SME digital transformation and AI integration. Since the DEB’s inception, over 26,000 SMEs have reaped its benefits, with a notable surge in AI adoption from 4.3 percent in 2023 to 53.5 percent by 2025. This growth is being further supported by new alliances with companies like Grab and RSM Stone Forest IT, which are set to offer comprehensive AI training, technical assistance, and cybersecurity enhancements.
Grab has introduced a new AI initiative designed to assist 10,000 SMEs across the food, retail, and e-commerce sectors. This program offers free online training, webinars, and courses in collaboration with the Singapore University of Technology and Design. Meanwhile, RSM Stone Forest IT is launching a cybersecurity program aimed at conducting phishing simulation exercises for 2,000 SMEs, thereby enhancing their ability to withstand cyber threats and uncover security vulnerabilities.
Further aiding the AI integration efforts, the government has released the “AI for Enterprise Impact Playbook.” This guide, a collaborative creation by the Infocomm Media Development Authority, SkillsFuture Singapore, and Workforce Singapore, aims to help businesses identify appropriate AI solutions and pinpoint workforce training opportunities.
Additionally, Singapore is set to inaugurate the SME AI Impact Awards in 2026, celebrating companies that have effectively leveraged AI to achieve tangible business improvements. The awards are open to Singapore-registered SMEs that have utilized AI solutions for a minimum of six months and can demonstrate significant operational or workforce advancements.
