President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is expected to travel to Washington, D.C. “in a few days,” according to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The announcement was made during the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the US-Philippines-Japan trilateral talks held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Rubio highlighted the strong and growing partnership between the United States, Japan, and the Philippines, noting joint efforts in strengthening economic cooperation, maritime security, and regional territorial integrity. “We look forward to hosting the president of the Philippines in Washington soon,” Rubio said, although no specific date or agenda has been confirmed.
The US Embassy in Manila also confirmed the expected visit through acting spokesperson Glenda Wallace, who emphasized that the schedule and discussion topics remain unannounced. The visit comes amid continuing trilateral engagement and collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region.
President Marcos last visited Washington in April 2024 for the first US-Philippines-Japan Trilateral Summit, which resulted in the launch of the Luzon Economic Corridor — a major initiative aimed at developing industrial and trade zones across Luzon to strengthen economic ties.
